Red Beans and Rice and Other Songs of the Dusty Trail : Lyrics |
Fishin' with Grandpa I’m not a great salt fisherman I like fishin’ with worms In a nice still pond Where I can hear my favorite birds Like the Red-Wing Blackbird And the Meadowlark And of course the Whipporwill And the Mallard Duck And the Great Blue Heron And the Canadian Goose And the tiny Sparrow And the friendly Robin And every once a Blue Jay And now and then a Finch And if you're real lucky a Hummingbird And a Red-Tail Hawk So you ask me why I'm here in this great big city You ask me why the other city I did flee I guess I didn't want to see her She didn't want to see me I guess I didn't want her to see me With somebody else you see So I left the city And I went far away To find another way That I could say I remember fishin' with Grandpa He liked to fish with minnows We'd sit and fish and catch crappies To the state lake we'd go And every once in a while we'd catch a big bluegill Or we might catch a bass And sometimes when we fished on the bottom We'd catch a catfish Sometimes we'd go below the spillway of the big dam And drop our line real far down below With a gig on the end And if we were real lucky we'd catch a walleye And hall him way up the side And hope that he didn't fall off And then we'd take 'em home and eat 'em After we first cleaned 'em Grandma knew just how to cook 'em up So they tasted real good Fishin' with Grandpa was a lot fun When I was a little kid by Doug Newman (c) 1999 Sandthistle Music / ASCAP |
Campfire Song When you’ve been out on the trail all day And you want to find a place to stay And you want a campfire that smells real good Make sure and find some hickory wood Campfires can keep you warm at night When you’re sleeping below the stars shining bright And the Coyote’s howling above to the moon And the hoot owl is hooting He’s wondering who Kipee ki yi yea get along little doggie We’ll soon be singing campfire songs Kipee ki yi yea get along little doggie We’ll roast marshmallows before too long While singing our campfire songs Campfires can smell real good at night When you find some hickory wood just right And you cook up some chili or pork and beans Grab your guitar and start yodeling Chorus by Doug Newman © Sandthistle Music / ASCAP |

The Bug Song Little mouse won't you get out of my house go away Little box elder bug won't you come out from underneath my rug please leave Well I really do like you guys please don't get me wrong There's just not room for all of us so please get along Little fly won't you fly up in the sky high away Little ant won't you get out of my pant-ry today Well you know that this is not the end Don't let me see you cry I'm really gonna miss you guys And that's no lie Little tick you make my doggie sick please get off Little mosquito won't you get off of my burrito I don't want to eat you Well I'm sorry it had to end this way you guys are really fun I just wish you would go away And dry up in the sun by Chad Newman © 1982 Sandthistle Music / ASCAP |
Home on the Range Oh give me a home A home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Some old sod house With indoor plumbing And air conditioning And cable T.V. Oh give me a home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play A home on the range Home on the range With a bathtub inside And a place to hide from the storm Clouds with tornados In case it all blows away Like I’ve seen on T.V. Oh give me a home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Oh give me a home on the range A nice old sod house On the range And come to think of it I’d better have a car So I can get into town Because it’s too far to walk I would imagine Home on the range Give me a home on the range Home on the range Give me a home on the range by Doug Newman © 1997 Sandthistle Music / ASCAP |
